This morning Cavin had the opportunity to speak with a STEM class at the Western School of Science and Technology in Phoenix as part of the Heroes for Students program. The Heroes for Students program engages students in their academic content by connecting them to community guest speakers. As a guest speaker, Cavin spoke about his upbringing, the challenges he has faced on his journey, and what he does now. Then, he opened up to the classroom for questions and received great questions ranging from “How many hours do you work?” to “Who is your favorite character on ‘How I Met Your Mother?'”
The class is working on a group project of designing a cybercafe for there 2 acre lot behind the school. Cavin spoke a bit about the fundamentals of design process and how to organize their thoughts and represent their ideas clearly, sketching out some potential ideas.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. The students were engaged and eager to learn and the school was friendly and easy to work with.
